Lately my heart has been stolen by the art of WoodLucker Studio – WOODLUCKER http://www.woodlucker.com/paper/
Woodlucker is a visual partnership and studio founded by Ann Wood and Dean Lucker in 1987, after graduating from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Two artistw who create wonderful pieces of art made out of paper, wood, wires, and metal.
Below a description of some of the pieces (source of description and photos taken from the website).
Ann’s current work is directly inspired by historical botanical prints. She manipulates paper and wire, using drawing and cutting with sharp embroidery scissors. Ann utilizes fine cuts to achieve realistic yet fanciful butterfly wings and flowers. These sculpted creations are then hand sewn on to wool and velvet backgrounds then framed in vintage frame stock. The work is delicate and direct with a nod to craftsmanship from long ago.
Dean’s work – below in an example of a mechanical sculpture built by Dean Lucker. Hand built brass cams and electric motors power a variety of storytelling movements; a moon is cradled as it floats from the sky, eyes in pears open and close as tears fall and fortunes are told as the viewer turns a crank. Many of these works are displayed as public art and are enjoyed in private homes.
