Route 66, which is also known as the Will Rogers Highway and colloquially known as the Main Street of America or the Mother Road, originally ran from Chicago to Los Angeles covering a total of 3,940 km. I fell in love with Route 66 after I had watched the movie “Cars”. My dream is to make a trip along the whole route but as it will take some time I am going to do it when I retire.
My good colleague Robert Bajkowski, the author of these pictures, took a short trip to Arizona and drove through a part of the old historical R66 from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, and farther towards the Grand Canyon.
When driving from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, you can transport yourself to an amazing old world by leaving the state highway and moving to the old R66. There is a museum about Route 66 in a small town called Kingman. Bobby Troup Jr. described the Mother-Road in the song “Route 66” – listen to Glenn Frey performance
It was very interesting to experience not so rich, formerly glamourous but now for the most part poor and forgotten part of the United States.
Sometimes it is difficult to imagine that Route 66 was the most important road before World War II, and it had a huge impact on the development of The United States of America.
Let’s go for a short trip 🙂
