The fountain of youth
Some time ago I wrote about a book by Tish Jett called “Forever Chic: Frenchwomen’s Secrets for Timeless Beauty, Style, and Substance”
Tish is an American, married to a Frenchman, who has lived in France for over 20 years. This book interested me because it’s written by a mature woman for mature women. It is the only book for women 40+ that I have found on the Polish market. Tish Jett convinces us that life is never about the numbers and tells us the secrets of Frenchwomen’s attitude towards life. What is the reason that they always look chic, happy with life and self-confident?
I would like to present to you a short extract from her book entitled “The real fountan of youth”.
„I have been teaching advanced level English for years now as part of an adults’ educational program in a town close to our village. Thanks to those courses I feel more immersed into the French community. My students are between 45 and 75 years old. And as you can probably imagine, they are a great object of my non-scientific studies and I often write about its outcome/results on my blog.
For the benefit of this chapter I decided to ask them what makes them feel young. Here is what they told me (the order is irrelevant):
- courses on many areas, from painting and IT through golf and joga, and English of course
- year round museum ticket
- children and grandchildren
- having guests
- fresh air and long walks
- eating lots of vegies ad fruits
Please note that none mentioned a favorite cream or cosmetic treatment.”
Isn’t that wonderful? This is what I call the joy of life, appreciating every small thing in life. Chasing the youth? Overrated 😉 Don’t wait for happiness, it’s here and now! We have only one life. Lately I read a beautiful sentence that we cannot control the wind, but we can direct the sail.
A long time ago I also heard something horrible from one of my aunts. She said something like “Life has no sense. We are born, work and die. One big nothing”. I still remember how shocked I was that one can think this way. I had promised to myself that I would live my life fully and consciously.
Frankly speaking, my life wasn’t always a bed of roses, but fortunately I am a born optimist and I have a strong will to fight for my own life and happiness.
What makes you feel young? Tell me in the comments here, or on my FB fanpage.
